The Fun Activity
This activity categorizes life experiences as a chemical type. This may seem a little confusing to see a common life experince or using people to gain a better understanding of the chemical types.
Directions: The basics of this activity is to use the chemical types as real life incidents. This explanation is hard to explain until an example is given. The class should be split into groups and should be able to continue after the example is given.
The example is: Where there is a person named Jack, he doesn't have any girlfriends or anything but seeks to find a mate. His friend John has a wife named Molly, and have been lawfully wedded for 3 years. Because of some influences Jack was able to win Molly's heart and in the end was able to have a great time with her. John now is lonely and by himself. This is exactly how a Single Displacement reacton works.
After this exampe the rest of the activity should be very self explanatory. Involve the class into these types of interpretations and ask why it represents those reaction types.
Some other examples that could be presented would be:
There is a bird that is skinny due to the lack of food, one day the bird found a worm and soon became full and not skinny anymore. This represnets a synthesis reaction.
Uncle Sam and Uncle Roger have different hats, Uncle Sam has a black one, and Uncle Roger has a White one. One day, Uncle Roger was in a hurry tow work and took Uncle Sam's hat by accident. So Uncle Roger has the Black hat now. Uncle Sam couldn't find his hat, and had the fear that people would now see his bald head. Uncle Sam took the White had to cover his secret. This is a Double Displacement reaction.
